I’m not really a baker. I have a tendency to be lazy when I cook, modifying recipes to be as easy as possible, and I’m embarrassed to say it travels into my baking methods as well. These oatmeal cookies are perfect for the bakers who are lazy like me, who want a soft and chewy cookie without having to put any effort in! It takes about 15min to make the batter, and it makes a whole 9×13 pan of cookies to share.

Here in the modern U.S., many of us live in an environment of traffic, vibrant colors, quick captions, marketing around every corner, phones chiming and ringing, people being accustomed to quick replies, same-day shipping, instant gratification, billboards lining every highway, short and loud content, “the next big thing” and yearly upgrades, and regular activities or appointments. Growing up, there were naturally a slew of words that my parents taught my siblings and I not to say. One of them, however, is rarely banned in households, and that is the word “bored.” Sure, it wasn’t actually banned in our home, either, but we were supposed to stay creative and play, finding something to do, or else Mom would say she’d give us more math to do. Lol

With my twenty-first birthday on the horizon, I’ve had the fun task of choosing the menu items for the party — as is the tradition in my family — and, of course, one of the menu items is the cake. Now there are several in my family that don’t care for cake that much, or would much rather prefer a different dessert in place of it. For example, my older brother has had pumpkin pie for his birthday since he was five or six, which is almost my whole life. At any rate, I’ve been exploring alternative options for my “cake” and recalled last year in which I made my own ice cream.
