Last week, my family lost my grandmother. As with any loss, we have been spending the week reminiscing, discussing our memories with her, looking through old photos, and writing her obituary and eulogies. For me personally, this process has been paired with other changes and opportunities in my life as my husband and I begin instating some of our life goals. These events have also all collided with my interest in marketing, causing me to ponder branding, reputation, and associations. As minds often do, mine has drawn a connection between these unrelated topics, and I wanted to share my learnings from them with you.

A Breakdown on Holidays (Part 2)

I believe it’s important to acknowledge the context and history of things as we study them out, regardless of whether we agree with or like the ideologies of the time, and regardless of whether things today mean the same as they once did. As I mentioned in my first post, the main issue many people have with the holidays celebrated in America today is their roots in pagan idolatry, mythologies, folklore, and witchcraft. We are told in the Bible that we’re not supposed to worship our God, Yehovah, in the ways of “the nations,” “the Canaanites,” or “the pagans.”

A Breakdown on Holidays (Part 1)

As a kid, my family was a part of the Baptist church. We celebrated and took part in the customs of the Gregorian New Years, a touch of Valentine’s Day, some of Saint Patrick’s Day, some of Easter, Resurrection Sunday, Independence Day, most of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. However, in 2006, my mom began making the transition from being Baptist to, eventually, Torah Observance, bringing the rest of us along with her. It’s an ongoing, long, and gradual process filled with a lot of study, prayer, and research, and along the way we’ve dropped some holidays, altered how we celebrate others, and picked up new ones altogether.

Priorities

Here in the modern U.S., many of us live in an environment of traffic, vibrant colors, quick captions, marketing around every corner, phones chiming and ringing, people being accustomed to quick replies, same-day shipping, instant gratification, billboards lining every highway, short and loud content, “the next big thing” and yearly upgrades, and regular activities or appointments. There are so many things to fill our time with and spend our energy on, and if we’re not careful, it’s more than easy to become swept up in the current.

Trouble Sleeping?

After being sick this week, I began to notice that I was struggling with my sleep patterns, noting that I gradually slept in later and later while having a harder time falling asleep at night, and realized that my circadian rhythm may be out-of-sync. As such, I decided to research ways to get it back on track, primarily by getting myself to sleep at a good hour and sleeping a full 8 hours.
